Aaron Chapman
aaron@thetownpants.com
Born: In the back of a taxi cab
Instruments: Tin Whistle, Mandolin, Musical Saw, Guttural noises.
Distinguishing marks: none.
Career Goals: Settle down and raise a few hogs, a few chickens.
Interesting fact: Believes he is Don Rickles' love child.
The only
actual born-and-raised Vancouverite in the group, Aaron was one of the
original founding members of the infamous Scottish celtic punk rock
band the Real McKenzies and spent five years of his misspent youth
playing and touring with the band across the United States and Canada
several times where he collected a number of wounds and dirty stories
and an innate ability to deal with audience hecklers.
While
his musical background is in punk, he grew up with Chieftains records
right next to the Clash albums. "Punk rock and celtic music aren't
really that much different. Good rowdy celtic music, when its played
right, had the same honesty and passion that punk music did for me so I
never saw them as that much different. Bands like 'The Men They
Couldn't Hang' and early 'Weddings, Parties, Anything' were a big
influence and inspiration for me."
Aaron
has graduated from the University of British Columbia and has written
and directed two films and shot and worked as a soundman on many
others. He has also worked on a number of music videos and even
appeared in a cameo role in Art Bergmann's "Contract" video, and has
worked as a tour manager with 'NoMeansNo'. He once worked as an
exterminator in Los Angeles, and now works as a contributor to CBC
radio. Aaron is a proud Scot who every week eats his body weight in
haggis...
