Brendan Mooney
Born: Under a bad sign
Instruments: Bass
Distinguishing marks: Occasionally wears a jaunty hat
Career Goals: To avoid having a real job
Interesting fact: Is often mistaken for Dave
Brendan was
raised in the wilds of northwestern Ontario, though not by wolves, as
he usually claims. His first paid gig was as a Buddy Holly
impersonator in a traveling Rock 'n' Roll tribute show, at the age of
sixteen. Shortly thereafter, when the act's then-bassist
disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Brendan volunteered to
learn the instrument and fill the vacancy, and he soon found his skills
- not to mention his possession of a bass and amplifier - in demand
throughout the region, by bands playing music of many different styles. Feeling
the need to explore new musical territory, and also to escape the harsh
Ontario winters, Brendan made the move to Vancouver, and was soon
playing and singing with a veritable who's-who of the Celtic music
scene there, including The Paperboys, Fear Of Drinking, The Streels,
and members of Spirit Of The West, as well as recording and performing
with many different Pop, Folk and Roots projects. At various
times, he's also supplemented his music career with occupations such as
actor, voiceover artist, puppeteer and toilet salesman. Brendan
currently spends his downtime from The Town Pants re-acquainting
himself with his Irish tenor banjo. He also makes up one-third
(the suave, sophisticated third, in fact) of the oddly-named Vancouver
pop trio Edmonton Block Heater.
